Let them sort the bugs out...and wait until they eventually listen to the customer feedback…

Stick with the version you already got...until Grisoft/AVG sort it out.

The new version comes with full size, regular ‘nag screens’ to update to their paid version…

Also, they have taken away a lot of ‘user’ decisions and automated them...Good for web newbies...But no good for people who have an ounce of common sense...and its real hard to disable them...so, subsequently, you are constantly reminded to switch on things that i’m not really happy with…

Eventually it is upto you...You can try it...but its a bastard to go back to your original version if you dont like it…

Have patience...stick with the version you have now...It will still be as good a virus protector as the new version…

I’ve already updated - a while back and those screens are starting to piss me off. I might just find an older version and uninstall the current version. Why feck around with a good piece of software and start putting advertising flash screens…

Workaround…

Once you install the new version...you cannot get rid of the ‘nag screens’...even if you go back to your original version...and removing the ‘new’ version is not as easy as you think..It leaves traces and stops you going back to the old version..

It forces you to accept v8.0...(Getting rid of the new version, completely, can be done but it is a pain in the ass)

But...i have found a very easy way to stop the screens…

It works on a far simpler method of stopping pop-ups...and works on all Win OS (including Vista)…

After downloading it, when you see a ‘Pop-Up’...open the ‘No-Ads’ panel and just add the open window you want from the list..

You’ll never see it again…

DB - you’re a genius, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise!

I’ve got NoAds - had it since the time someone fucked around with TC and it would forward you to some other website - but I didn’t realise you could stop the windows that popup from an application, although I suppose if the popup is web-based, this makes sense.

Workaround…

Next time the nag screen pops up...right click No-Ads...and check the list of open windows...You’ll see it listed…

(It doesnt work on all ‘nag screens’ though)

Bunkers, any opinion on Avast free edition? The nerds at my local computer shop seem to rate it highly.

avg used to be the best.... now version 8 is all screwy.

The older version is far easier to use.

I use both. I used to think that AVG was better because it just worked away and did its thing. Now Im not so sure after the update.
