“Twirling galaxies, exotic nebulae and exploding stars are now just a mouse click away for amateur astronomers.

Microsoft has launched WorldWide Telescope, a free tool that stitches together images from some of the best ground- and space-based telescopes.

Collections include pictures from the Hubble and Spitzer telescopes, as well as the Chandra X-Ray Observatory.

The web-based tool also allows users to pan and zoom around the planets, and trace their locations in the night sky”

to know more http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7397811.stm

Once again, Microsoft is reacting to something that Google did first. They launched the “sky” module for Google Earth a little while ago:

http://earth.google.com/sky/skyedu.html

That’s not to say that Microsoft’s version isn’t good, I’ve heard people say that they like Microsoft’s map service better then Google maps. I just think it’s odd that Microsoft seems to think that they’re competing with Google, when really they shouldn’t be.

Microsofts ‘Live Local’ map service and ‘aerial maps’ are a shitload better than Googles…

Anyways...I’ve just downloaded it and i’ll let you know…

(One thing...It may appear nothing is happening or the set-up has crashed after downloading...Have patience...it will load in the end)

Nice one teddy! Hours of entertainment to be had there.

(The recommended minimum spec. is bullshit, though; works fine on my machine. Micro$oft plugging Vista again.)

A little complicated...but if you stick with it...You’ll suddenly realise how to set it up to your locale and night sky viewpoint..
