The wife just dictated to me what TV shows she wanted to see this week and it got me wondering. How many, if any, US TV shows make it to the UK and do they get there quickly after release or does it take a while ?

I’m a big Doctor Who fan and it seems that it takes a few weeks for the episodes to make it from the BBC to Canada. And, on that topic, I think Freema Ageyman as Martha Jones is by far the hottest companion yet.

P.S. Had to close the session earlier when an emergency phone call came in. Here’s the reason I’ve asked the question - there are several US shows starring UK actors doing American accents:

House - Hugh Laurie - Hugh has admitted on talk shows it’s harder to remember the accent than the script.

Life - Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers) - New program with Damian as a super-observant police detective who was previously convicted and exonerated for murder.

Journeyman - Kevin McKidd (Rome) - Kevin’s character travels in time but, after two episodes, we’re not really sure why he travels. His Scots accent still sneaks through in some scenes.

And as for the best American doing a London accent...Gotta be Spike from ‘Buffy the Vampire slayer’...You couldn’t tell the difference at all.

Heroes took about 6 months from the US to the Sci Fi channel (but nearly a year to make it to BBC2).

I agree re Spike, his accent is very good .....I always thought he was English but a quick wikipedia glance found:

James Masters was born in Greenville, California, and grew up with his brother and sister in Modesto, California.

As for where he got the inspiration for Spike’s English accent, Marsters said it was from his co-star, Anthony Stewart Head. Head—who was born in Camden Town—affects a light, Received Pronunciation accent as Giles; he has a deeper, more notably London accent when not in character.

The TV quiz showin the UK, I believe called “The Vault” is orginally an Israeli format devised by a guy called Erez Tal.

The american stuff is much better than our tired crap fucking soaps man, gimme oz, the shield, 24, prison break, heroes any day of the fucking week!!

That would be Mary-Louise Parker in real life. She’s currently starring in “Weeds” a sit-com about a young widow who sells pot to make ends meet in a small town. I’ve not seen it but friends who have tell me it’s hilarious.

I kinda figured that since it’s in the third season here.

I just finished watching the second or third episode of a new program “Big Shots” which is like “Sex and The City” taken to the next level with male leads. It’s given a few chuckles from Dylan McDermott getting caught screwing a transvestite in a truck stop parking lot and Joshua Malina’s mistress bonding with his wife as he tries to break off the relationship. Christopher Titus’ wife offers him se twice a week if he get a Brazilian done on his boys and Michael Vartan’s wife was having an affair with his boss while the boss had a heart attack while firing Vartan’s character.

Convoluted - yes. Funny - big yes.

Theres a pretty cool show that has started on the Fx channel on sky called Brotherhood, irish gangsters, kinda like an irish sopranos, think that crossed with scoreses departed!!

I dont think i saw any eamons, ginners and freckles im not sure either, check it out man, its a good show!!
