It told me i had 7 virus infected files..rated ‘Medium Dangerous’

All of them were nothing more than very low level, basic ‘tracking cookies’...

The scan was from ‘Panda Active Online Scan’ (Comes highly recommended by several leading websites)...and what was their solution for removing this evil?...

Yep…Well…you could always buy their software as offered..

I’ve still got a paid for copy of Panda that I’ve never put on any system. It was a moment of madness in a computer shop.

AVG/Grisoft beat nearly all of the ‘paid for’ anti-virus software currently available…

I highly recommend it…and i recommend a Firewall that lets you know, everytime, when something is trying to dial home..

My ISP provides me up to five free copies of F-Secure for using their service. I’ve been trouble free since.
They too offer a free scan but I’ve not had to use it.

I´ve heard of freeware scanner which adding virusses´n cookies themselfs to detect them later, maybe it was that kinda thing.
I would stick to more nameful scanner.

It was Panda…A very famous anti-virus/corporate security company…founded in 1990.

Panda is as famous a Norton or any other of the brand names…I went directly to their main website to run the scan. It only found ‘cookies’.

microsoft offer free scans if i remember correctly.  (or was it just a software/hardware check up?)

Well, forget Panda. They even got security holes in their scanning engine!
I would recommend “Avira’s FreeAV” (free for personal use) and their superior product but their personal wasn’t nice when I met them on the Avira booth on this years Cebit… Nevertheless I use their Virus scanner and haven’t had a virus / false postive ever since.
