I’m sorry this all happened to everyone, but you getting stabbed doesn’t constitute a “crisis”. A one-off incident only tells me the possibility of it happening, not that it happens all the time. And I wasn’t trying to give you a personal insult by suggesting, though knife crime is high, it’s just the latest thing money-hungry paranoia-feeding shite like The Sun has decided to jump on to boost sales and make people shit themselves.
Remember when paedos were taking over the world? That’s right, well, has that problem gone away? Nope, it hasn’t, but the papers got tired of it so stopped reporting it, and so it fell out of consciousness. The same thing will happen with knife crime eventually.
Again, I’m not saying it’s not bad and doesn’t happen, and possibly saying “my arse” was a bit too damning. But it was more a shot at the media that they’ll forget there ever was a problem in a few weeks, when people lose interest. And I’m sorry to be “controversial”, or rather not, but it seems to me that being black and in a gang on a council estate leaves you the biggest chance of being stabbed. No, I’m not being racist, or ignorant, it’s the truth. It’s not the knives that are the problem, it’s the fact that the kids have no regard for human life whatsoever, because their parents can’t be fucked to teach them about it, and it’s left to American gang culture and a fucked-up sense of “pride” and “honour” to teach them what they think life is about.
Sadly, the media talking about it so much normalises it in a sense. Telling young people they all carry knives will make some think “Shit, are they? I’d better have one too so I don’t get fucked up”. By talking about it so much and making such an agenda out if it, it brings it more into the open, and doesn’t demonise it at all. I have no problem reporting facts and offering solutions, but making people shit themselves and making them afraid to go out on the street doesn’t help anyone. 20 deaths of young people in London is terrible, and shouldn’t happen. But if you look at how many of those put themselves into that position by their own behaviour and “culture”, that list gets smaller. If you take out the killings by the random psychos that always happen and are unavoidable, the list gets even smaller. How many young people are in London? I’d love to know the statistic for the relative chances of being a stab victim, because they’re pretty fucking small compared to how likely the media is making it seem at the moment.
The truth is, for some reason the media is insistant on making us believe we can’t do anything anymore without fear of dying. Well that’s true, you can’t. I could drop dead any second from a heart defect or something and I’d have no fucking clue. But don’t make people think about it all the time, it doesn’t help anyone at all. Reporting every mugging and theft that happens doesn’t add to anyone’s daily life, all it does is serve to make people frightened. And for what? It serves no purpose at all. It’s a bizarre culture we’ve created where we feed off negativity when it comes to news stories, but we do it for some reason.
Anyway, just to clarify, knives are bad, I’m not shitting on anyone’s experiences, I just think it’s overblown, and another media fad that they’ll lose interest in way before the problem actually goes away.
