I have been told seriously that I have to give up smoking ... I love smoking and I don’t think going cold turkey is the answer (because I’m pretty stressed out at the moment and god I love smoking).

Any ideas what I can do?  Do the patches work?  What about Zyban?  Any other recommended medications?  I have no problem putting any kind of legal chemicals into my body - as long as it helps me give up smoking.

Thanks boys….

Well…I used the patches…It helped a great lot…but it was still fuckin’ hard…

2yrs later…i started again…

Then i tried the ‘inhaler’ type…Its like a stubby cigarette that you put a capsule in it…That seemed to work better than the patches as it feels like your still smoking…

I have been told seriously that I have to give up smoking ...

Hope everything’s ok mate - nothing to do with the leg problem is it?

Mate of mine smoked 30 Bensons a day for 20 years. Went to Cyprus on Holiday, smoked 60 a day for 2 weeks and came home and felt crap. He went to a hypnotist who charged £40 with a stop smoking guarantee (if any further sessions were needed they would be free of charge until he’d stopped). This was 5 months ago and he’s not had one craving since (even though he works in a busy pub and this happened before the smoking ban.

Might be worth a shot….

Cheers,
SD

Hey mate, thanks for caring, you guys.  Nah, it’s nothing to do with the leg problem.  It’s to do with my daughter - she’s been coughing like crazy - wifey took her to the doctor and he immediately asked if there’s a smoker in the family (me!) - even though I don’t smoke in the house or near my daughter - the smell from me and my clothes and stuff is affecting her and if it carries on she’ll become astmatic.

So, I’m left with no option, looks like my smokin’ days are over.

I can’t see myself being hypnotised although my wife has a friend who went to a healer to stop smoking.  She paid a fortune for it but said the actual treatment did nothing for her, but the fact that she paid so much money for the treatment she said she wasn’t gonna waste the money.

I’m tempted to go for the patches.

Hypnotism…

Well…You know my outlook on that…

I mean…Like someone talking to you in a deep, serious voice is gonna change you entire life…

Hypnotism is a subject that cannot be taken seriously…any fucker can trade as a ‘hypnotist’ and charge £50 per hour…

Seriously…Would hypnotism cure a ‘heroin’ addict…( even tho’ when they asked heroin addicts what they wanted most ‘nicotine or heroin’ they all chose cigarettes first…go figga )

Humper…I’d go with the patches first…get the strongest available…BUT…You cannot have a cigarette whilst using the patches…It can cause totally serious heart problems and that ‘warning’ is posted all over them..The nicotine overdose isnt good for you…

If that don’t work, have a go on the ‘stubby’ cigarette type…

DB

( and avoid stressful situations…and occupy yourself with something else when in a situation / place / infront of the PC…etc…etc…where you used to smoke…)

I went cold turkey. Smoked around 20 a day then got flu, didn’t have a craving for a week…when I got better I just thought I’d see how long I could go without having one. Lasted 3 years before, like a twat, I thought I’d have ‘just the one for old times sake’ when out drinking with friends. Luckily I’ve managed to keep it as a ‘social’ thing and can go days withouth any urges, but as soon as I’m in the pub and my smoking friends decide to go out for one I have to join them :(

Well, good luck mate smile if there’s one thing that’s sure to help is the knowledge you’re doing it for the sake of your daughters health.

Cheers,
SD

SeaDog…

I agree…His daughters health is the biggest motivation…She is coughing because of his smoking…His smoking is causing her litle lungs to blacken before she has even really started her little life…

Humper…Sorry to be harsh…but thats whats happening….Rant here when the cravings come back…tell us how tough it is…Just stop…as a dad you would give your life for your daughter…and all you need to do now…is just get over the addiction…( and i farkin’ know how hard it is to do it…it’s a living nightmare )

Stay strong..and committed…

Humper…
Hypnotism will only work for certain people, if their brains are maluable. I don’t know if you live in the UK but your local Primary Care Trust (PCT), contactable through your GP can also offer help.  They should run classes or workshops to help people stop smoking.  Also if you work in the public sector there may be help through your employer.  Hope this helps and good luck.

I agree.

I smoked about a pack a day for 7 years and basically went from 20 to 15 to 10 to 5 to 0 a day in about a month.
No patches, no gum, just will power and for me it helped putting of that first smoke of the day.
The later you start the less you smoke and that is how I went from 20 to 5.
When i was stuckm on 5 i just pushed myself to go for 0.
It was tough and my next vice become Polo mints, but I have not smoked anything since (7 years ago now)

‘Nicotine’...its more powerful an addiction than ‘heroin’

They asked hundreds of heroin addicts and gave them the choice…

They all picked cigarettes first, over the ‘heroin’...

Thats how addictive nicotine is…

You gotta suffer to give up smoking…

Kudos to all of you that have quit!

Stress keeps me coming back.
I wish you luck.
