Diabetes is not fun. I had an aunt who hated going to the doctor and avoided them for almost twenty years. She finally relented when pains in her feet and calves got so bad she could hardly walk and was going through a big bottle of acetaminophen(aka paracetamol) every week. Doctor diagnosed diabetes that had probably existed for 12 or more years and the pain was subcutaneous gangrene - they removed both legs from the knee down.
I was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes about five years ago but it’s under control via exercise, diet and meds. Every time I go to the doctor for the meds renewal, he checks the feeling in the soles of my feet. So far he’s used a tongue depressor, a straw, a feather and acupuncture needles. I’ve got two cats and I figure as long as can feel the scattered kitty litter underfoot I’m still OK.
