ive managed to banjax my laptop somehow. Couple of weeks ago i was removing stuff i didn’t use and trying to speed my lappy up by changing settings.

Since then i can only save images as .art or .bmp, no option for jpg or anything. Obviously i needed something that i no longer have but no idea what it was. Think was a photosoftware thing i deleted (dont have the cd for that anymore) but could save jpg’s before i installed that so not sure if thats it.

Any help would be appreciated and please speak slowly coz i dont have a clue cheese

You mean… you can’t convert images to .jpg files?  Or your computer can’t open/recognize them?

This site says you should try clearing your cache…

This seems to agree.

i can look at them on websites but can only save as a .art or .bmp, when the original image is a jpg. Right click on it, try to save but its only letting me save as those formats and cant open them anyway, But i want jpg back

Download a piece of software called ‘Paint.Net’ (It’s a freeware paint prog…very similar to MS paint but better…deals with 99% of all image formats)

Have you tried ‘System Restore’...???

Have you got any image software at all, still on your laptop…???

Download Paint.Net first and then try and save a pic…

If it don’t work get back here…

PV1.image is Ulead Image Viewer?

Strange you’d have that…

If you right click your sig image and select ‘save as’ what does it say it will save it as? It sounds as if you have removed something that’s deleted any .jpg file association.

Run ‘My Computer’ and select Tools | Folder Options | File Types - scroll down the list and you should have JPE, JPEG and JPG regsitered file types. If you haven’t, you’ve removed something which has deleted them. If you have, click the JPG file type then the ‘Advanced’ button then click the Edit button, highlight all the information under the ‘Application used to perform action:’ field, right click and copy then reply to this and paste.

Cheers,
SD

PS…

What about ‘file association’...I bet you still got image formats linked with Ulead…but Ulead has gone…

DB

(PS…Me and SeDog had the same idea at the same time..)

PPS…

Teddy…

Right click an image you already have in .jpg…

Scroll down the ‘right click’ options…Click ‘Open with’ and choose Paint.Net or MS Paint…

At the bottom you will see ‘Always use this program to open this type of file’ and a box ( or something like that) put the tick in the box…

Close the window..and then try and open the .jpg

This is what more than likely has happened…

cheese

right….

my sig i can save as jpeg or bmp, yours and DB’s i can only do .art or bmp. seems the same with any pics on the site. if they are on my computer already they are fine, if not they wont do jpeg

on the files types theres about a billion on the list. for both JPE (JPEG image) and JPEG (JPEG image) the actions are edit, edit with the GIMP, open and printto
for JPEG (file i think that one is) the box is blank
