My city was hit by a tornado last night, a good friend sent me some photos of the damage and figured I would share for thos interested. It is really pretty bad, I have lived here for 30 years and never seen damage liek this in the city! A breaf discription of what you are looking at is below. My home was fine, have no power, dont think that I will for a while as there were down power lines everywere as i drove to work this morning.
As you can see from the photos, Centennial park, CNN, The Westin, The Omni Hotel, and other surrounding buildings had some pretty bad damage. ((if you havent watched the news today, turn on CNN))
A beloved music venue, the Tabernacle, will need some mega work as windows were blown out there. A vacant brick building behind the Tabernacle just collapsed. The Cotton Mill lofts (sorry no photos) had serious damage – roof and top floor gone, and 4 floors caving in. Those lofts are East of me, over by Agave Restaurant. So far no deaths, but they are looking at the Cotton Mill lofts and are expecting to find at least a few.
Many cars (most were surface lots parked with people at last night’s basketball games at the Ga Dome) were hit by flying object or had their window’s blown out by high winds//the suction force of the tornado.
