I bought a full hd lcd tv (sony 40x3500) and I am not really happy with the quality of the picture.
It is perfect for watching dvd, ok for watching sky tv, and crap for the cable.
Is there a way to upscalle those signal for me to enjoy my 2500 euros investment?
Merci beaucoup.

Is sky hd really worth paying £200 for the box?

Is there a way to get a free/discounted box?

I recently bought the same tv and upgraded to Sky HD.

I’m very happy with the picture although some old programs can look grainy because the tv software is expanding the picture beyond its normal boundaries. I haven’t seen the results from cable to know what the problem could be.

Here is a good forum that will help you optimise your set up:

Cable is cable…

And don’t go buying any ‘boosters’ for the signal...It is known that they will degrade the picture even more, including Sky.

Secondly...the more devices you put scart leads thru..the more the signal degrades by the time it reaches the back of your TV.

Asterix is right about HD capable devices such as PS3...The picture is only as good as the HD signal coming into the back of the TV from an HD enabled device......A HD Sky Box will give you HD picture… and buy the best Scart leads you can buy...They do make a difference…

Check out the web...There are loads of forums and advice websites, especially for Sky HD..

I agree, boosters blow. its like taking a thumbnail picture on the web and blowing it up to a full screen, it gets all pixally. you can only do so much enlarging and boosting with data before its all screen door looking. Only cure is to find a better source for your inputs. Cant piss in a cup and expect a fine lager to come out.

The good thing about Sky HD and PS3 is that they both plug in via HDMI rather than scart

Would it help if I connect my dvd to the tv with component cable?

component cable is better then your single yellow cable, but not as good as hdmi.

A TV is only as good as the signal going into it.  When I got my LCD, I immediately called my cable company and told them to get me an HD box.  I could not stand the picture.  And component cable is better than coax or the RCA cables.  If you invested that much money into a TV you should invest in a Blue-Ray player or at least an upconvert DVD player
