to be fair, this looks like the aftermath of an International Rugby match. Given the number of Welsh shirts and kilts, probably the result of an all day of drinking session for Wales v Scotland…always messy lol.

These pictures must’ve been taken during the six nations rugby tournament, which finished last saturday (i think). The city centre is usually a no-go area for most when there is an international rugby match on, for reasons that are pretty obvious in the photos.

They were probably taken in the early hours of the morning, although the people in then had probably been drinking from around midday. For these people, stuff like this is actually a special occasion to be looked forward to.

I live in Cardiff and it is times like this that make me go and watch Taxi Driver.

note not one attractive lady in any photo, well maybe one at best. Thats pretty much any big city on a sat or friday night in wales, england scotland or ireland, especially if there is a big sports event on. It is sick, scummy and horrible, even more so from an objective view as we have looking at still photos, but when you are in these places drunk at the time it doest seem like that. well it does for me most times, i hate this culture. But most, say 70% don’,t if they want it then so be it, just leave me out except from time to time when ill get steaming, its not an every weekend thing for me though.

This unfortunately fills me with depression. I remember going to Cardiff in late 1958, and the contrast in scenes is unbelievable.

We knew how to have a good time then, and be respectable (the police were rarely seen or needed) - we took the ladies out with gentlemanly manner to the pub for a few swift halves..have a laugh, and a good old sing song with the locals with the jukebox on. Then we’d go to the dancehalls to take our partner round the ballroom, but there was NEVER any trouble of this kind. It just didn’t happen.

That’s not England arne, I have been to Cardiff many times and recognise some of the locations (and thankfully not the scenes.)

You did not “save us” in World War II, you merely helped end the war quicker and saved a lot of trouble our end. Britain and the allies would probably have won the war without the Americans, but it would have taken much longer. When the yanks joined in ‘41, Russia was starting to push Germany back West, and the British were re-taking parts of Egypt.

I study economics in Frankfurt which is one of the best financial locations in europe. We have a kind of an equilibrium here: if you are a great talent and have published some interesting papers, you get an offer from chicago or wherever and leave. the gravtiy you mention pulls the intellectuals towards the USA. just take a look at the nobel laureates of the last 30 years - many of them europeans working for US universities. Show me ONE US scientist winning such a prize working in europe. your bullshitting about the economies is ridiculous. europe (especially its economic champion germany) depends extremely on its export. if the US doesnt buy anymore, europe starts to cry (as we see now every day). since the us exists it outrun europe in almost everything. thats a fact. your prognosis of what will be is worth shit as long as you dont have a good record of making such forecasts. looking at the facts shows no sign of european economic predominance - in contrary. china will overtake soon, how strong the economy in poland, hungary etc is will be seen soon - i doubt that they will survive the stress easily. because again we have 25 statesman where everyone thinks he has the right solution which will again end in a chaos as so often in europe.

Being born and raised in Cardiff I can tell you that the photos represent one small part of Cardiff, this part in and around Caroline Street near the National Stadium is a hot spot for rugby fans. Most of the people in the photos are probably not from Cardiff but from the valleys having their yearly binge.

Sicknick: if you ever read this, make sure you get your facts straight - the US of friggin A would have been similarly overrun by Hitler’s troops if you wouldn’t have been over the pond. i think comparing the usa and europe is not as easy as putting your two pence here. europe is multinational entity, which has both rich and poor countries (britian actually being one of the poor ones if you take into consideration how much we own [thanks yanks]). and military power, think about nato and other agreements our countries have. our military power is now considered as one (if we get in trouble you help and vice-versa [although barrack is a lot less keen on that idea]).
