I was way too hot to watch any motorracing this past weekend. Felipe Massa won the F1 GP, but the more interesting story was that of Bruno Senna (yes, nephew of the late and great Ayrton). He was driving along at the front during the GP2 series when he met his match and crashed. Can you guess what it is without scrolling to the end of the clip?

Last week it were the cars that showed us how to crash and survive. This week it is a MotoGP driver. Jorge Lorenzo was bombing along when he got it wrong. In a big way. His dismount is a 7 but his headbutt on the tarmac is a definite 9.

Yesterday we posted a topic about the Heikki Kovalainen crash in the Formula 1 Spanish GP. 140Mph into a tyre barrier and nothing to show for it. It was pretty scary and spectacular, but we think Stephane Ortelli takes home the prize for biggest and baddest crash of the weekend. He was driving in the Le Mans series at Monza, Italy when he lost control of his car and simply took off into the air. He also beat Kovalainen in terms of injuries as Ortelli suffered a whole broken ankle during the crash. Now, if only he’d had a sponsor for the underside of his car he could have made some good money.

Talk about being lucky. In yesterday’s Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen had a mighty lucky escape. He came into a turn doing about 160mph when his front left tyre exploded. With no where to go but straight on he crashed head on into the tyre wall at roughly 140mph. His car got pushed underneath the tires with Heikki still in it. Somehow he survived and I just can’t imagine the G forces that must have had a party in his body during that crash.

I would get pretty pissed off too if I’d lose a point in tennis, but not as pissed off as Mikhail Youzhny. Even John McEnroe could learn something for this headcase.

You know it can happen if you race cars for a living or as a hobby. Even the best crash and get killed. Yet, you still never expect it to happen to you, but when it does you can only hope and pray that the car you are a passenger in is capable of withstanding what comes it’s way. Hunter Abbott surely prayed and hoped everything would be OK when he crashed his Ginetta G50 doing 100mph in the GT4 race at Oulton Park, UK. It worked. He only had minor burns and some aches and pains. And a large bill for repairs.
Update: Added a crowd video of the incident

Things like this upset me.  I smoke and drink and would struggle to run down the road, but this old fart is setting himself up to break a world record by running the London Marathon next month at a staggering age of 101!.  Buster Martin completed a half marathon last weekend in under 5 hours, he admits himself his time would have been faster except that he stopped for a beer and a smoke! Fair play to the old codger

Not that we need reminders, but some sports can be very very dangerous. Motor racing and sky-diving to name just two. Skiiing is not often put on that list, but if anything is dangerous it is going at 80mph down a slippery slope on two flat sticks. The unfortunate Matthias Lanzinger found this out. He took part in a competition run, crashed, broke his leg and just had it amputated. Life sucks and then you wake up with just one leg.

I’m an Arsenal fan and member and I did not post this because I had not yet seen what happened. And my god does it look bad. Yesterday Arsenal played Birmingham City in the Premier League. After only 3 minutes Birmingham City defender Taylor goes into a tackle with his studs showing and plants his foot halfway between Arsenal player Eduardo’s knee and ankle. The result is a snapped leg and possibly a finished football career. Let’s hope not.

Richard Zednik, heard of him?  I hadn’t until now, the Slovakian born NHL Florida Panthers star went one on one with one of the oppositions skates yesterday in a season game against the Buffalo Sabres, the skate won.  Zednik suffered a severed carotid artery, but is now said to be in a stable condition.  I’m glad the guy is going to being ok, but I have to say one of the first things that sprung to mind after reading the news article was the Iron Lotus from Blades of Glory. You can see the footage of the incident here, I wonder what Willys Dirty IceHockey Mom would say about this?.

Often when people mention skateboarding, everyone thinks Tony Hawk. Indeed he is an excellent skater, but this guy Rodney Mullen was the man who invented the “Ollie” as well as many other well known flatland tricks that kids break bones to today. Rodders has a unique skating ability and an exceptional choice in leg wear, The footage was shot in Japan the early 80’s, so we’ll let him get away with his trendy skating attire.

The ski season is in full flow and that means plente of broken limbs and broken egos for people that simply think they are better then they really are. Skiing is a physically tough sport and even the professionals get it wrong sometimes. Scott Macartney got it wrong last weekend in Kitzbuhel. While doing 90mph Scott wiped out and got seriously owned. Things didn’t look too good, but he seems to have suffered no lasting damage apart from eternal fame on the ne.

I met up with an old mate of mine last night, who i haven’t seen in years. One thing he told me he had been up to was going snowboarding. Now without going in to too much detail about him, lets just say that this is one thing i could never imagine him doing, not least because of his fear of heights. So i think this next idea would be right up his street. Or should i say, train track?

It is International Football week again. Qualifiers galore. Not just in Europe but also in Latin America. Ecuador played Venuzuela and in that game a simply stunning goal was scored. Check it out and stick with it as the second and third repeat are much clearer.

Most of you will have no clue as to who Antonio Puerta is. Let me tell you. Antonio Puerta is a player for Sevilla football club and the Spanish national team. He is 22-years-old and he won’t be getting older either as he passed away today after five (5!!!) heart attacks. This past weekend he played for Sevilla against Getafe and after 35 minutes collapsed on the field. This was what turns out to be his first heart attack. Amazingly, after treatment, he walked off the field himself. However, in the locker room he became unwell again and had antoher heart attack. Three more followed and he was kept in a coma to try and stabilise the situation. Unfortunately to no avail. R.I.P. Antonio Puerta.

It has come and gone, but in all truth the Indy 500 never leaves a true racing fans heart during the rest of the year. The Indy 500 is on par with the Monaco GP and Le Mans 24 hours race as a must see for every race fan. This year’s race was won by Dario Franchitti, but that is not what stays in most visitors minds. It is the beer, parties and general feel good atmosphere. Our friends at VBS TV sent two reporters to the Indy 500 to capture the spirit of the race. They are accompanied by Indy bad boy PJ Chesson and he gets them places they could have only dreamt of. It is a 6 parter so just keep watching as every episode follows the next automatically. It is well worth it. If you like your racing you might want to check out this live stream of the Rotterdam Racing event taking place right now. It features all kinds of cars (including several current F1 cars and drivers) bombing it through the streets of Rotterdam.

I know some of you Crappers like your motorracing like I do. Today the DTM (Deutsche Touring Meisterschaft) visits the Dutch circuit of Zandvoort with its Audis and Mercs and you can follow the race live via the internet by checking the streams out here.

Steroids might have been a better choice. If you think about it.. Maybe not for the sport but his pockets are very satisfied. Watch the video wondering what if he never took em. Barry Bonds has been a key figure in the BALCO scandal. Its been long alleged that Bonds used steroids as well as other performance-enhancing substances. So far for “alleged"…

I’m a huge sports fan, so I figured my first post would be about sports. I played a little soccer (football to all you non americans) in high school and was pretty bad, so I know what it’s like to be down 5-0, but i don’t think it was ever this bad.

While I was lording it up with the Fuel Girls (more on that later today) 22 men stepped into their Formula 1 machines to take part in the Canadian Grand Prix. The race was won by boy wonder Lewis Hamilton in his McLaren in what was only his sixth GP race. His achievement is an amazing one, but it might get overshadowed a bit by another event that took place during the race. Thoughts of Ayrton Senna’s death crash came rushing back when Robert Kubica crashed his BMW Sauber in horrific/spectacular fashion. He went off the track at high speed, got some air and headbutted a wall at amazing speed. The most amazing thing is that Kubica only suffered concussion and a twisted ankle.
