What the fuck was Chuck Norris thinking when he decided to piss off his main target audience, the gay community, in a column about gay marriage rights in the USA? What was he thinking? About ending his Hollywood career? Wanting to live dangerously? Or was Chucky Norris simply defending the rights of the majority who voted yes to proposition 8? Gays getting married is none of my business, in fact be my guest, but in a democracy it is case of follow the majority rule, in the good AND bad times. Maybe that is what Chuck Norris is trying to point out?

That is a really well written piece and the political sentiment, and before anyone calls me a homophobe please note that I did not say the content, is damned right, well done to him!
If majority rule was the law of the land on civil rights issues slavery would probably still be legal in some places. There are exceptions made in cases of human rights and especially equal rights which are guaranteed under the constitution no matter what the majority thinks.
This issue isn’t simply about the right for gays to marry. It’s about discriminating against one particular group, treating one group of people different from the rest, and denying them a right that’s freely given to everyone else.
It’s called discrimination. And in the year 2008, I thought we’d moved past that. Obviously not. And that’s sad.
“A pro-homosexual, pro-anarchy organization named Bash Back marched into the middle of a church service and flung fliers and condoms to the congregants. They also hung a banner from the balcony that featured two lesbians in provocative positions at the pulpit.”
Gay Activists always seem to be their own worst enemy. However, gay marriage is a social issue, not a political football in which majorities and minorities are the name of the game. In this day and age, gay marriage should be accepted. If two gays love each other and they want to cement their relationship with a piece of paper, then let them. It’s a sign of an advanced civilisation that acknowledges the “realities” of the world we live in.
@wanka: Probably a bloke marrying his pet pig, or a woman marrying her duotone balls.
To be honest, a wedding is a religious tradition. I’m not religious, but if the bible *is* against homosexuality, then, by the rules of that religion, marriages might not be allowed.
I am all for equal rights, totally, and I am strongly against religion. But a Christian wedding for gays might not be right, if Christians can find evidence in their scriptures to support it. A non-religious equivalent with equal legal implications is fine, but if you want to partake in a religious ceremony, you have to follow the rules of that religion. As much as I am against religion, you have to do it properly or not at all.
A marriage isn’t only a religious ceremony, it can also in most countries be a civil one. Also it isn’t only the ceremony that is important it is the legal rights granted to those people who are married, from tax, to inheritance to the right to make decisions about their partner’s medical treatment in emergencies.
