Richard Zednik, heard of him? I hadn’t until now, the Slovakian born NHL Florida Panthers star went one on one with one of the oppositions skates yesterday in a season game against the Buffalo Sabres, the skate won. Zednik suffered a severed carotid artery, but is now said to be in a stable condition. I’m glad the guy is going to being ok, but I have to say one of the first things that sprung to mind after reading the news article was the Iron Lotus from Blades of Glory. You can see the footage of the incident here, I wonder what Willys Dirty IceHockey Mom would say about this?.
Wow. That’s a lot of blood. And they were able to save him. He looked very limp coming off the ice. How about modern medicine, able to keep someone alive after severing the carotid artery. And yes, I had to copy and paste carotid artery.

Pretty Nasty. Second time that’s happened in Buffalo during a Sabre’s game. An even nastier accident happened back in 1989 to Buffalo Goalie Clint Malarchuk. You really see the blood spurting out of his neck in that incident.
