This just in. The 4 founding members of torrent legend, The Pirate Bay, have been sentenced to one year in jail and a fine of 2,7 million euros for all the harm they’ve supposedly caused the entertainment industry. They’ll probably appeal and we hope they win.

amen to that
They were convicted for a crime they themselves have not committed.
By the same token, and extension, Google are guilty by providing search engine links to torrent sites, and the music industry is guilty of damaging the hearing of anyone that should listen to a record too loud and just as liable for prosecution.
It’s a really quite bizarre conviction.
Truly is sad, fucking entertainment industry like they dont make enough money. A recent study shows that people that illegally download music, movies etc spent more money on legal downloads of entertainment. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4718249.stm) So what the fuck are they bitching about. This shit really pisses me off.
That’s like taking Totally Crap offline ‘cause I post a link with child porn:p
Technically it’s not their fault that someone is posting illegal shit on their site:p
They got what they deserved, they created a site designed to aid piracy.
This has already gone straight to appeal. It could keep going for years. There’s certainly nothing in Swedish law to justify the punishment they got for this crime even if they do stay guilty.
At the end of the day, the Pirate Bay stays on line and is on decentralised servers.
In reality, the best outcome for the music/movie cartels will get is that they will inadvertantly give a lot of publicity to file sharing, they will become even more hated by their own customers, and the next generation of P2P clients arriving will have more encryption and obfuscation that ever before, and will be totally decentralised. Just look at the way things like Oneswarm is going. Once again the media cartels will crow about a great battle victory, but it’s actually another step towards them losing the war as the technology moves further and further away from being controlled by anyone or any organisation.
Ask the music/movie/games industry one question
Ask the technology advances and downloading gets easier. Do you think that more or less people will download music/movies/games
Fucking idiots
Spotify has it right on the money
All your going to do is get Chinese language websites taking up the strain
Vive la revolution
Hmmm… Why don’t they try going after Russian or Chinese sites??? Haha - fuckers…
Time for the Bay to move to Malaysia!
To be fair they prob should be convicted and their attitude after the conviction was announced will have done nothing to help their case one bit!
tbp continually waves their dicks in government and industry faces and they do sort of reap what they sow.
file sharing is definitely the future, though. I agree with jd. nobody likes “the establishment” anyway.
