Rock Werchter: Day 1 Review
I got home at 3 o’clock last night and had a great time at Rock Werchter. I saw Manu Chao, The Streets, a bit of the Peppers and a bit of the Black Eyed Peas. Manu Chao was great. He really got the crowd going, plenty of jumping, plenty of singing along and plenty of smoking dope. Next u was the choice between the Peppers on the mainstage and The Streets in the marquee. Being a long time fan of The Streets and Mike Skinner we headed to The Streets and had a near front row place to stand. You can like or hate the music, but The Streets ab-so-lute-ly rocked the place. Catchy tunes, great crowd interaction and there was such much jumping the floor was buckling under the onslaught. We managed to catch the last 20 minutes of the Peppers and they SUCKED. What a crappy performance. No interaction, shredding a Led Zep tune and about 5 minutes of instrumental crap later there were a lot of dissappointed faces (mostly from spotty drunk teenagers) who headed to their tents. Headliners (!!!) were the Black Eyed Peas. My favorite band. Fergie looked like she had just injected too much botox in her face, they ripped off other peoples tunes (GNR, 50 Cent, House of Pain, Pulp Fiction tune to name but a few) and generally sucked ass. Today sees Kanye West, Sean Paul, Live, Muse, The Who and Radio Soulwax htting the stages.

I saw the Black Eyed Peas open up for The Dave Matthew’s Band last summer in San Francisco ... they sucked then too!!!!!

don’t understand their music sounds pretty, reasonably ok, when heard on the radio.
live a lot of bands sounds like shit, but BEP should be banned from singing live..
The Black Eyed Peas were ok as an underground hip-hop band, 5 or so years ago. But then that skank Fergie joined and then they turned in to a pop band and went further down hill with every single.
I was there at werchter and made the mistake of going for RHCP.
They were really poor… Should’ve gone for the streets…
The Streets were great - my missus wanted to see the Peppers and dragged me over there. I agree with Willy, they were shite - they even had an argument on the stage at the end - probably about which song to fuck up next and finish on. I was a Peppers fan until I saw this.
My missus let me decide. The Streets it was.
PS the streets are playing the AB in Brussels sept 21th. I alreayd got my tickets.
