You don’t need to be a boxing expert to see where a punch lands.  It was a neck shot that also caught a small piece of the jaw.  He did get his bell rung though, plus getting punched in the neck tends to be disorienting in the first place.

Actually, he probably hit the cartoid artery that runs along that part of the neck. A hit to that will cause a disruption in the bloodflow to the brain, hence the instant drop. The reason the ref immediately called stop is that this strike can cause arythmia of the heart - to whit a heart attack.
